Memoirs of a Pleb is not another Rags to Riches or Nobody to Somebody cocktail, shaken and served with crushed ice. That said, who among us aspires to being a lifelong, card carrying member of the 99% and yet here we all are?
For real people, real life lies sandwiched somewhere between those Rags to Riches and Anonymous to the Greatest of All Time sagas. Real lives describe billions of untold stories starring real people who must also drag ourselves out of hopelessness and despair deep enough to sometimes forget what happiness is. Regardless, we must dust ourselves down to ‘go at it’ again and yet again if need be.
In reality, Plebs have longer to climb and more to learn but also to lose. For me, that included a vile egocentric racism and a brand of misogyny so casual that it followed me around like a stray dog. Discovering my real self obliged me to temporarily take flight, losing excess baggage that I wasn’t even aware I was carrying. I was certainly a lot lighter as a result but I still needed some direction but lucky for me, it came with a capital ‘D’.
Let me take you on just one of countless but guaranteed genuine journeys through the quagmire of this thing we call life. And no need to look so down, because it wasn’t all gloom and doom. In truth, people with less are easier to please and while ‘They’ are still working on charges for laughter, for us it will always be free.
